Client-led, individually tailored services

One of Accent Clinic’s main philosophies is to take a client-led approach to accent modification services. This involves many open conversations with the client about their concerns, perspective, and goals regarding their communication. Instruction plans are developed based on these client-specific goals and progress is measured with feedback from the instructor as well as the client’s own judgment of the improvement of their performance.

Initial Consultation

Before even making a commitment to receive services, you can first participate in a free 15-30 minute consultation with the instructor, either via video call or phone call. This allows the instructor to gain a sense of your personal and professional goals in order to collaboratively develop a plan for formal evaluation and instruction.

In-Depth Evaluation

Using evidence-based materials, you will participate in a formal evaluation with the instructor, either in person or via a virtual platform, during which the instructor will record and assess various aspects of your English communicative abilities at the sound, word, and sentence levels. The instructor will look at parts of your speech such as pronunciation, intonation, stress, rate, and volume and compile the results in an evaluation report.

Review of Evaluation and Development of Instruction Plan

The instructor will review and discuss the results of the the evaluation report with you and work with you to develop a “curriculum” or instruction plan that targets all of the desired areas of improvement in English communication that are important to you.

Training Sessions

Training sessions will take place at a frequency mutually agreed upon by you and the instructor, at a pace you are comfortable with. Progress will be monitored often, both through informal discussion with the instructor and more formal reflection after a number of goals, both short-term and long-term, have been met. Instruction plans can be modified at any point during the process and are tailored to your ever-evolving needs and desires as the client.
